Día del Sol -- June 23, 2016
There is nothing more gratifying than exceeding an ambitious goal! Again we decided to “shoot for the stars” (or in our case “the sun”) with a Día del Sol 2016 goal of $65,000. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and sponsors, the event raised almost $72,000 for GAAH’s programs in the Grandville Avenue neighborhood.
Because of the incredible community support GAAH receives for this event and throughout the year, the Cook Arts Center and the Cook Library Center will continue to be bright spots for youth and families in our community for years to come.
Here are a few highlights from our 2016 event :
- The Cook Library Scholars crafted stunning quilts for the silent auction that are sure to be keepsakes for the lucky winners.
- The Teen Leaders ran a photo booth during the event and took some memorable photos with attendees!
- One of the most heartwarming moments of the night was when a Cook Library Scholar, Sofia, was eyeing a lovely vase made by a pottery class at the Cook Arts Center. A GAAH board member asked Sofia where she would put it if it were hers, and she had already dreamed up the perfect spot: in the middle of her kitchen table so her family could admire it during every meal. The board member ended up being the winning bidder on the vase—solely so he could give it to Sofia. These are the moments that we love to celebrate.
